A Workshop for Men Coping with Illness and Men whose Partner is Coping with IllnessIllness requires every couple to rethink their relationship in general and in particular their sexual relationship. The struggle with illness requires the mobilization of resources and it is especially during this time that many couples find it difficult to use the physical intimacy between them as a source of power.
Physical pain, movement restrictions and fears that are based on inaccurate information or misunderstanding may add difficulties to emotional and physical intimacy. Each partner separately and both as a couple have a specific script on how their sexuality starts, develops and ends. In case of illness this script needs to be changed in order to allow the couple to rediscover physical and emotional intimacy.
Participants in this course will:
1. Receive information regarding the accepted changes that occur in physical sexual function due to age and to medication's side effects.
2. Examine the values and beliefs regarding sexuality they have developed over time.
3. Will identify the information and positions that do not correspond to their health status or their partner's health status.
4. Discuss the physical ,emotional and social challenges of sexual health couples face.
5. Examine ways to create a personal/individual "sexual script" that is suitable for them.
6. Recognize reliable sources of information to questions they have regarding sexuality and chronic illness.
